What is “truth”?
The Christian Bible (66 books of Old and New Testaments) should be approached with a literal, verbal, plenary interpretation. The Bible is not primarily allegorical (though it contains allegory), but is a literal account of God’s work and purpose. Christian faith and action must be based on God’s Word.
Psalm 18:30; Proverbs 13:13; I Timothy 4:13; II Timothy 3:16-17
God is the Creator and Sustainer of everything. He exist in three unique, yet equal “persons”: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit. God is a perfect trinity, having perfect fellowship within the God-head and in need of NOTHING. He is all powerful, all knowing, and outside of time and spacial restraints.
Deuteronomy 6:4; John 1:14; I Corinthians 1:25; Ephesians 1:13-14, 4:4-6
The Biblical account of creation teaches that everything, seen and unseen, was created ex-nihilo (out of nothing) by God. Genesis teaches a literal six days of creation before God instituted a Sabbath day of rest. Man and woman were created in the image of God to live in relationship with God and each other, enjoy creation, and worship the Creator.
Genesis 1:1, 1:27; Ephesians 2:10; Colossians 1:16-17; Hebrews 11:3
Sin entered into God’s perfect creation through the “first Adam”. The shalom or rhythm of the world which God instituted was fractured. Adam was the biological father of mankind, and passed inherited sin to the rest of humanity. Each person is born in sin and is separated from God, longing for the eternal bond which we were created to enjoy.
Psalm 25:11; Romans 3:23; 5:12-14, 8:20-23; I John 1:8-9
People are born lost and separated from God by way of both imputed and inherited sin. An individual can only be forgiven of their sin by grace, through faith in the finished and sufficient work of Jesus Christ ALONE. Salvation is NOT earned by any righteousness or work on the part of the individual or the Church, but through Christ alone. Adding anything to this is heresy and NOT the gospel of the Bible. Salvation is of God and cannot be earned, lost, stolen, or forfeited.
I Corinthians 15:3-5; Romans 5:6-8, 6:10-11; Galatians 1:4, 2:16; Colossians 1:13-14
The church is not a building, but is the living community of Christians around the world who are all placed in this community or body of Christ by God. There is also a local aspect to the New Testament church meeting together as a local reflection of the global church. Jesus is the leader of the church and local churches should be lead by Biblically qualified elders who are submissive to Jesus Christ.
Romans 12:1-5; I Corinthians 12:27-31; Ephesians 1:22; Hebrews 10-25
The life of a Christian is not one of perfection, but one energized by the grace of God. This means not striving for perfection, but for God who is perfect. The right standing of a Christian is sourced from his standing “in Christ” and on the righteousness of Jesus Christ Himself. God provided His written Word to be read, understood, and to conform people into the image of His Son Jesus. Life is about a pursuit toward the God who has made salvation available, and doing whatever it takes to “know Him more”.
Romans 5:2-5, 12:1-2; Philippians 3:8-11, 4:11-13; James 1:2-4
